PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – An analysis of nationwide personal injury verdicts finds that back strains are the most frequently cited injury in vehicular liability cases, according to Jury Verdict Research®’s annual report, Current Award Trends in Personal Injury – 48th Edition. Of the plaintiff verdicts entered into the JVR database between 2001 and 2007, 65 percent were for instances of vehicular negligence. The overall median award reported for vehicular liability claims was $15,000, with back strains accounting for 36 percent of the total plaintiff awards. The median is the middle value among awards listed in ascending order and provides the most accurate gauge of the norm for a specific sampling of jury award data.
Current Award Trends in Personal Injury – 48th Edition examines cases that were tried from 2001 to 2007 and is based on original, compensatory jury awards rendered to individual plaintiffs for specific claims of physical or emotional injuries.
