HORSHAM, Pa. - Plaintiffs injured by tractors, backhoes and other farm equipment won significantly more money in products liability cases than those harmed by household appliances, playground equipment or baby products.

According to Jury Verdict Research®'s report, Products Liability: Verdicts, Settlements and Statistical Analysis, the median compensatory jury award for farm products was $1.47 million more than the median award for consumer products. The median awards for transportation products, that included cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles; and medical products, such as medications, prosthetic devices and orthopedic hardware, were at least $1 million. The overall median compensatory award for products liability cases was $700,000.

The 67-page report also details plaintiff recovery probability (percentage of plaintiff verdicts to total verdicts), percentage of jury awards for $1 million and more, and jury-award mean, range and probability range for 50 specific categories in the 10-year period studied.
