Juries in South Carolina Favor Plaintiffs in 61% of Cases
The likelihood of a plaintiff verdict
in 2003 rises by 3 percent from 2002, while the overall
plaintiff recovery probability - the number of plaintiff
verdicts to total verdicts for South Carolina is 6 percent
higher than the national recovery probability, according
to Jury Verdict Research®'s 2005 South Carolina Verdict
Survey.
The statistics are based on verdicts rendered in South Carolina
from 1998 through 2004. The study also includes a breakdown
of specific injury and liability categories in the state
of South Carolina.
The median is the middle value among
awards listed in ascending order. This value provides the
most accurate gauge of the norm for a specific sampling
of jury award data.
